Where can I buy the best, most affordable Wall Art?

Curatr has an extremely broad range of affordable, unique Wall Art pieces in all statement genres. We don’t list the norm. We don’t list the average. We list Bold.

Our Pop Art is inspired by pop culture artists such as Banksy, Mr Brainwash, Alex Monopoly, Andy Warhol and more. We only list products that are unique, hot and make a real statement in this genre.

Why do I see 'on backorder' for certain items?

Backorder means that the stock isn’t immediately available but will be ordered on confirmation of a customer order. Delivery will take approximately 10-14 days.

Do you have a Showroom where I can view the Art?

We’re an online store and order our Art and print locally on confirmation of orders. We realise however that there are sadly many businesses that deliver a sub-standard product which makes consumers hesitant to order online.

Are the Canvases and Art Prints framed or unframed?

The canvases and Art Prints listed on our website are unframed and delivered rolled up safely in a tube for you to take to your local framer. You are welcome to speak to us about framing as we do offer this as a service for an additional cost in the Greater Johannesburg area. Our framing partner is a well-established framer with the utmost quality production. They frame for hotels, galleries and local artists for export and local exhibits.

 

How to measure for the right size piece of Art 'home hack'

The ideal way is to physically measure with a tape measure or use an app on your phone. If the art is destined to be behind a couch or bed, decide if you want the sides to go over the edges (of the couch or bed) or not.

The most used sizes in South Africa are poster sizes, which Curatr offers from sizes A3 to A0. There are two great home hacks to make this work for you visually:

  1. Get one or two A1 cardboards from your local stationery or grocery store.
    • Half an A1 is an A2
    • Half an A2 is an A3
    • Two A1 carboards make an A0
  2. If you can’t get cardboard, take pieces of A4 printing paper and start connecting them.
    • Two A4’s makes A3
    • Two A3’s makes A2 (4xA4 printing paper)
    • Two A2’s makes A1 (8xA4 printing paper)
    • Two A1’s make A0 (16xA4 printing paper)
      1. Remember to decide of you want the art in portrait (longest side is the height) or landscape format (longest side is the width)

Most importantly, the frame adds a couple of centimeters to the art piece, and if you want a mount board (a white border between the art and the frame), take that into account too.

Can I custom-select a particular frame for the art?

Absolutely you can. You can give us an idea of what type of frame you’d like or how you’d like it custom framed and we can give you a quote. Example images  would be ideal. We however can assist you with framing options to suit your budget.

Can Curatr research and purchase a specific Art Print for me?

We would be happy to. We have access to some of the greatest art libraries and can literally find anything you’re looking for. The art and framing will be quoted before purchasing, and once paid, the purchase will be made and turnaround time advised.

Canvas and Art Paper specifications

Unless otherwise specified, our paper products are printed on 250g Fine Art Paper with state-of-the-art Epsom inks. Our canvas products are high quality 270g poly-cotton with a satin finish. Should the canvas be exposed without glass, they are easy to care for as are water resistant and wipe easily.

How do I care for the Art?

Canvas and Art Prints wall art can last many years. We use high grammage Art Paper and the best inks for the prints. Most of our imported canvases are high quality poly-cotton with a satin finish with some being a pure cotton canvas.

It is most important to place the Art in an area that doesn’t get direct sunlight during the day. This will cause any item, whether Art or other, to fade over time, especially with our hot South African sun.

Exposed canvases i.e. no glass should be lightly dusted lightly regularly to retain it’s beauty and avoid being damaged by dust particles.

What are the courier fees?

Curatr will waive the delivery charge for orders over R1250 to all main centres / cities. Framed art will carry a delivery charge.

Deliveries within the greater Johannesburg area are charged at R98 incl VAT. Other deliveries to main centres / cities are charged at R138 incl VAT. An additional surcharge of R288 incl VAT is applicable for select towns that are extremely outlying.

Are the Art Prints and Canvases non-original items?

Yes. Curatr retails non-original prints and canvases from various sources globally. 

When can I expect my delivery?

Décor pieces, Art Toys and Posters / Canvases

For items that are in stock, customers living within the greater Johannesburg area will receive their order within 2-4 working days. Deliveries to main centres / cities will be received within 3-5 working days. 

If a product is listed as ‘on backorder’, it will arrive 10-14 days after your order is placed and payment is made.

Framed Art

Please allow for a lead time of 7-10 working days for the framing before the following timelines apply. Customers living within the greater Johannesburg area will receive their order within 2-4 working days. Deliveries to main centres / cities will be received within 3-5 working days.

What are the payment options?

Once you have placed your online order, you can either pay via EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) or via a secure payment gateway online, Payfast. Should you pay via EFT, the bank details will be emailed to you once you complete the order. The order will then be processed once we receive your proof of payment. 

Does Curatr ship outside of South Africa?

Anything can be done! We’ll just need to check at the time what the fee would be to the destination country. Please email hello@curatr.co.za if you require a quotation.

What if my product is damaged on arrival?

Believe it or not, each and every product is quality checked before it’s boxed and shipped. We do everything in our power to ensure that you receive your exquisite product intact. If however something has been damaged in transit, please email hello@curatr.co.za within 5 (five) working days of receipt and we’ll replace the product free of charge.

How do I care for Perspex on the art?

Perspex is a lighter and safer than glass option for your art. It does however need to be cared for differently than you would care for glass.

DO: always wipe gently. Use a dry, soft lint-free or micro-fibre cloth to gently wipe off dust particles. If the Perspex gets any harder marks like finger prints, wipe particles as above and then wipe gently with lukewarm soapy water.

AVOID using a feather duster or tougher / cloths on the Perspex as it may leave faint scratches on the surface.

Please be sure to share this with anyone in your house that does general cleaning for you.

Can I return a product?

If you aren’t completely satisfied with your product within 5 (five) days of receipt, we’re happy to provide you with a credit or we’ll refund you the product price* less the courier fee if applicable which cannot be refunded or credited.

Returns sent back to Curatr for need to be paid for by the customer and packaged sufficiently to avoid damage in transit. Refunds may take a few days to process, dependent on how you paid. 

*Products that have been used and/or damaged by the customer cannot be returned.

Sale items cannot be returned.

Framed art is produced on an order basis and therefore cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Can I order a product that shows ‘out of stock?

You can most certainly email hello@curatr.co.za to see if we have another order coming in and if not, we’ll advise if we can get the product for you again. Products could take between 2 and 6 weeks depending on availability, manufacturing time and shipping country.

Does product pricing change?

Our products are globally sourced so we rely heavily on currency exchange rates and freight pricing. For products currently in stock, the price you see is the price you pay. If you require a product that we don’t have available stock for at the time, we can re-order. 

Since the start of Covid-19, air freight has sky rocketed and continues to climb.
