Over the past two years, product customisation has been growing massively. It’s set a president on personalised gifting and the thoughtfulness that goes into it. Enter Wall Art Customisation…
One really doesn’t need to be an artist to add personal touches to a gift of Wall Art. It’s about the meaningful sayings, icons and expressions that turn a great gift into the ultimate in gifting superiority which doesn’t have to cost thousands of rands.
Take this simple black & white Mickey & Minnie canvas that we custom imported for an order. Our customer took it home and added some pop art personalisation to it as a meaningful gift to his wife. I mean could that just not melt your heart!
With the emergence of Pop art in the 1950’s, it presented a challenge to traditions of fine art by including imagery from popular and mass culture, such as advertising, comic books and mundane mass-produced objects. Richard Hamilton described the style, writing: “Pop art is popular, transient, expendable, low-cost, mass-produced, young, witty, sexy, gimmicky, glamorous and big business.”
Want to know how to go about it? To start here’s some basic principles & ideas:
- Draw on imagery from advertising and consumerism with prominent brand names – you’ll see many French and Italian Designer labels used, Campbell’s Tomato Soup, icons like Kate Moss and Charlie Chaplin. Andy Warhol elevated everyday objects to museum status.
- Step & repeat, duplicate & overlay all the way
- Add some of your own photos in black & white or colour as a single focus point or even in a collage
- Add some of your own sayings, doodles and icons to make it speak to the person it’s being gifted to.
